Sanatana Dharma - Can abrahamic religion influence or dominate over it
There is a lot of talk about Hinduism nowadays but why did it start? Our Vedas/Gita was there in a verbal and non-verbal manner long before its renaissance. People live the principles based on their beliefs and work. Wisdom was mostly passed down within the family and it had topics to guide us in our lives and for us to coexist with nature. The advent of propagation of a more assertive form is believed to be started after the first mosque was built on the Malabar coast. Sanatan dharma is not some ancient folklore for Hindus but the practices and way of life that we still see in our households. Cities have been built on the outskirts of villages and then later engulfed them with their reach but current cities hold a new generation of people who have seen their neighbors on social media only. The views are mostly influenced by Hollywood or Bollywood stars and the abrupt information available in short videos. In this scattered set of people, Abrahamic religions find their playground to grab as many people in their fold. This would have happened silently to a much deeper extent but social media can also be a tool for transparency which many activists and influencers have brought to the forefront. Some extremist elements have created much chaos and death in the name of religion and that is also a key reason for reminding people of their roots which was common knowledge otherwise.
Sanatana Dharma, speaks about all aspects of life which are rarely about god and more about how to live or how to be. Many religious leaders have tried to malign it but ended up as more informative for the people who would not have bothered about it in their daily life. What if this is God's plan to remind us who we are and how we should live? A simple example would be yoga which is a science for better health and can be used by any human being irrespective of their religion. As a Hindu, in my home, I see all festivals are planned as per the Hindu calender which predicts solar and lunar cycles very accurately. If we keep aside gods, what remains is the way to eat, what to eat and how to be during that time period.
I would also like to highlight that the gods that influenced us were not able to set one specific way for everyone, meaning, one can become a true Muslim or Christian by following Quran or the bible respectively but there is no method of becoming a Hindu. An alternative explanation can be that anyone who is willing to continually adapt to the times we live in and not stick to any single belief is automatically a Hindu. But yet again a conundrum comes to play when a Hindu term is used only to describe set of people within a geography, well that simplifies the discussion a lot.
